A safe haven for
marginalized communities

Using psychomotricity to work through physical imprint and help find psychological well-being.

Psychomotricity

Where the mind and the body meet

The body remembers

What we live through leaves a physical imprint — in breath, posture, tension and pace. Psychomotricity begins there, in the body, rather than in explanation.

Safety before change

Nothing is pushed. Sessions move at the speed of your nervous system, with consent and choice at every step, so the body can learn that it is allowed to settle.

Room for who you are

Physical Haven is built for people who have often had to make themselves small — queer, trans, racialised, disabled, sex working and otherwise marginalized bodies are met as they are.

Karina Christensen

Karina is a psychomotor therapist and the founder of Physical Haven. Her practice grew out of a simple conviction: that people pushed to the margins deserve somewhere their body is not questioned, corrected or rushed.

Alongside her clinical work she is engaged in the wider future of the profession — representing Danish psychomotor therapy in European conversations with young practitioners from across the continent.

A little about her

What she brings into the room

Movement first

Trained in contemporary dance in Copenhagen and at Tanzakademie Balance1 in Berlin, and later teaching dance, mobility and fitness to children, teenagers and adults. Years of studio practice inform how she reads and works with a body.

Psychomotor therapy

Currently training as a psychomotor therapist at KP Hillerød, with neuropedagogy at HjernePraxis and a background as a social and health care assistant — a clinical grounding beneath the somatic work.

Care in the margins

Night shifts in supported living, and work at Café Klare, the night café for women experiencing homelessness. Meeting people in crisis without flinching, and without asking them to explain themselves.

Nightlife and sex work

Working the door at a queer nightclub and hosting in Copenhagen and Berlin club culture has given her practical, non-judgemental knowledge of nightlife, sex work and the safety that people in those worlds actually need — de-escalation, boundaries, discretion.

Volunteering

Chat counsellor at Livslinien, peer support in the association for eating disorders and self-harm, and ambassador work for active health. Listening is a practised skill, not an improvisation.

Languages

Sessions in Danish or English, with moderate German and Swedish. Language is rarely the barrier here.
